South African winters might be mild by European standards, but early morning or late afternoons rides can still be frigid.

The trusty gilet is a proven riding garment to keep you warm when required, without becoming uncomfortable as the morning thaws.

Woodstock cycling apparel brand, Indola, is best known for its outlandish African-themed riding shirts. But the latest Indola product addition is its Radar Gun Gillet. And yes, that spelling of 'gillet' is intentional.

What makes this gilet unusual is that it manages to be waterproof and breathable. Caught in the rain? With one of these, you won’t be pedalling around in a soaked gilet for the balance of your ride.

A proudly local cycling apparel brand, Indola uses specialists in Tafelsig, Cape Town, to help produce its Radar Gun Gillet.

Despite the challenge of sourcing synthetic fabrics with adequate moisture-wicking properties in South Africa, Indola’s design team managed to find what they required.

The Radar Gun Gillet features a 145gr breathable waterproof woven fabric. Available in sizes from small to triple extra-large, Indola’s Radar Gun Gillet is lightweight and stowable.

When your winter morning ride starts heating up and it’s time to shed those layers, the Radar Gun Gillet is easily foldable. And it only weighs 195g, which should be entirely tolerable to even the most ardent gram counters.

To match your frame colourway or fashion sense, the Radar Gun Gillet comes in red, black or teal.

Garment features include reflective strips and two zipped pockets for keys, tools or Haribos.

If you want to support local sourcing and require a winter riding gilet with comprehensive rain resistance and credible ventilation, Indola’s Radar Gun Gillet is priced at R845.
