The internet has a soft spot for pets, whether it's a dog who sings along to the piano, a raincoat-wearing duck or a senior cat with sad eyes. Recently, a Reddit post went viral after one user shared a video of their dog "politely" asking for food.

Under the username u/RustyTrombone673, the OP (original poster) posted the video on the r/rarepuppers subreddit and captioned it "My sweet rescue asking politely for food."

Since it was shared on Tuesday, the post has already managed to generate a total of 10,400 upvotes as well as 166 comments.

The video starts as the OP shows the meat on their plate, after which the camera turns to reveal a dog wearing a bandanna while sitting next to the owner. As the pup wags its tail out of excitement, it then proceeds to do the "give paw" gesture, after which the dog starts to lick the owner's hand, seemingly asking for food.

In typical Reddit fashion, many users rushed to the comment section to share their reactions to the video.

"I'd just set the entire plate on the floor & go make a [peanut butter and jelly sandwich]," one user commented.

"1. Watch it disappear in 350 [milliseconds] 2. Get the same look immediately after," another commenter wrote.

A fair share of users applauded the dog's behavior. "Good manners," one user wrote. "Such a sweetheart, please give many bites," another Redditor said.

"Give that baby your entire plate!," one user demanded.

Meanwhile, quite a few commenters appeared concerned about the look of the meat shown in the video.

"Jesus this steak isn't even rare... its unheard of," one commenter shared.

"A good vet could revive that cow," another user wrote.

The OP responded by saying: "Who said it was steak?"

"Good doggo, but that food does not look appealing," one Redditor pointed out. In response, the OP conceded that the commenter had a point, saying: "Agreed. With this lighting it looks terrible. Taste was definitely another story. I ate all of the good stuff first."

Another commenter asked the OP for an update: "OP please give us an update, we need to know if they got a bite this is so important," to which the OP replied: "She got some food. The scraps of fat mixed up with her dry food."

According to the American Kennel Club, giving your dog table scraps isn't recommended as it may reinforce begging behavior and potentially "lead to tummy troubles and even health problems like canine obesity." In addition, certain foods that humans usually consume aren't safe for dogs and at times can even be toxic.

AKC also advises owners to feed their dog first before sitting down to eat, preferably in a different room to prevent the dog seeing you eat in the first place. Other suggestions include sending the dog to a cozy spot, ignoring and redirecting the attention of a begging dog and focusing on obedience training.
